SUBJECT: 11.21.22 BEE Informed Daily Digest

Dear P.S. 101Q Families,

During the month of November, we are all reminded of the importance of being thankful. Recently, I read an article from Harvard Health Publishing that shared the importance of an attitude of gratitude.  It increases your quality of sleep, lowers stress and improves your overall quality of life.  I am sure we can all benefit from an attitude of gratitude.

Quite a few years ago, our student council (PALS; Positive Action Leaders) changed the way we engaged in class celebrations at this time of the year.  The students advocated for the community to engage in community service in lieu of Thanksgiving parties.  The purpose behind this was to give all families and students an opportunity to show their gratitude by thinking about others.  It will be exciting to witness the outcomes of this year’s community service drive.

In the spirit of gratitude, there are two groups of people that we should show our gratitude for;

First, let’s thank our teachers.

They are working hard on a daily basis to ensure that our students have the best education is in a nurturing environment. We are thankful for the countless hours that teachers spend during and beyond their work day to ensure that students receive a quality education in a nurturing environment.

One way to show gratitude toward our teachers is help them in any way that we can.  Many of us already do just that!

Teachers are asking for help for the following;

  1. We ask families to be mindful that teachers have 24 work hours to respond to emails, text, phone calls  or REMIND notifications.  Teachers want to hear from you and they want to respond.  However, they are with students most of the day and will respond within 24 work hours, when they do not have students with them.
  2.  Another way to help our teachers would be to notify 28Q101@schools.nyc.gov by 1:00pm of any after school or dismissal changes.  They may not see a text or email while they are teaching.  They want to ensure that every student gets to the correct location at the end of the day.

Last by not least, let’s thank our Parent Volunteers.

I am simply amazed at the dedication and caliber of our parent volunteers.  Every time we see a parent volunteer, especially someone from our Parents’ Association Executive Board, it would be my hope that we would thank them for all that they do for all children in our school.  In this season, let’s be intentional to let them know that we appreciate them.

The 2022-23 Parents’ Association Executive Board is as follows:
